✦ Premise
Maybe you were desperate, having lost all hope for a happy ending. Maybe you were trapped in a cage made from your own grief, wasting your life away while searching for a way to bring the person you love back to the realm of the living. Maybe you had finally given up and found yourself begging for someone, anyone to save you! Or, maybe, you were just really, really, really craving a pizza while thousands of miles away from the nearest pizzeria. We don't judge. Whatever your case might be, it is at this moment, when you have been brought to your lowest(?) and find yourself wishing for the power to change your circumstances, that a stranger with an oddly cheerful smile finds their way to you.
At first, it might feel like this is nothing more than a dream, a vision, or even a hallucination. Perhaps this stranger seems out of place in this time and space? Or maybe they fit right in, and you're lucid and completely aware of what, exactly, you are agreeing to. Regardless, the stranger, who you will soon learn is a recruiter, always begins the conversation the same way: with an observation and an offer.
"You're really going through it, aren't you? If you lend me a minute of your time, I believe we may have the solution to your problems."
And so, a deal is struck.
Your greatest desire, in exchange for your name, your face, your fears, your sorrows, your joys, your time and your privacy. But you don't need any of those things now, do you? What's your personhood worth in the face of having your wish come true? You're going to be a star, baby!
So, only one question remains: How much of yourself are you willing to give up to the masses in order to get what you want?
Now, get out there and break a leg.
✦ Schedule
Our pre-game schedule, opening date and projected game end dates are as follows:
PRE-GAME SCHEDULE
Interest Check January 29th
Reserves Open February 4th
Applications Open February 11th
Applications Due February 18th
GAME SCHEDULE
Game Start February 20th
Game End April 19th
Once the game begins, the Monday through Wednesday schedule will proceed as most of us are accustomed to at this point!
WEEKS ZERO THROUGH SEVEN:
MONDAY, 12PM EST/9AM PST: The weekly mingle post will go up, with relevant information regarding location updates, weekly effects, and other developments. On weeks 1, 3 and 5, characters will also be assigned a series of optional mission prompts to complete throughout the week.
WEDNESDAY, 12PM EST/9AM PST: Mini-Events will occur on a biweekly basis. More specifically, on Weeks 0, 2, 4 and 6.
So, what's different? This game will run on a hybrid schedule. That is to say, we will be running alternate weeks of murder and mayhem. As this is an experimental format, here is a quick rundown of what Murder and Adventure weeks will look like:
MURDER SCHEDULE - WEEKS ZERO, TWO, FOUR AND SIX:
THURSDAYS: The weekly curfew top level will be unscreened at 8AM EST/4AM PST for players to reply to! Just like in previous games, players will have until 7PM EST/4PM PST to report if their character will be spending curfew in any specific location. If you're not able to submit a comment yourself within that time frame due to other obligations, we will allow other players to include your character in their comment if you both plan to spend curfew together.
Please note that we will not be accepting late curfew comments, so if you plan to be somewhere other than your character's assigned lodgings, be sure to report it as soon as possible.
FRIDAY, 6PM EST/3PM PST: Death day! Similar to the body discovery threads in
chroma and
wenis, a mini-investigation thread will be posted in the mingle, for 2-3 characters to hop into and discover who that week's victim is. For people who weren't in either of these games, this is only for finding the bodies, not a proper full investigation - you won't find evidence in this thread. This thread will run until 8PM EST/5PM PST. Should there be more than one victim that week, additional mini-investigation threads may be posted on a block schedule and the wrap-up time may be adjusted at mod discretion. Players will be notified should this happen.
Once all bodies have been discovered, an announcement will be posted confirming the identity of the victim(s) for everyone to see ICly.
SATURDAY, 12PM EST/9AM PST: Trial day, baybeee! All characters will be required to attend ICly and we do ask that players are available for these days. If you need to miss a trial, please let us at least 48 hours in advance, or as soon as you become aware that you need to miss trial, so we may plan accordingly. However, please note there will only be four trials total this game including tutorial week. Trials will end at 9PM EST/6PM PST unless stated otherwise. A one hour break will also take place at 4PM EST/1PM PST for players to step away for lunch/dinner, and for mod tags to pause. ICly characters will not be able to leave the trial unless ICly dismissed early.
Traditional investigations will take place during trial time. Additionally, IC voting will be live at the start of trial and close at the end. Once the vote is closed, we will announce the party with the majority of votes.
SUNDAY, 1PM EST/10AM PST: Sundays will be execution day! This is the day in which a selected party will come forward to execute whoever is voted for at trial. Being present OOCly for executions is not mandatory the way trials are, though ICly characters may be expected to be present for these. After the execution wraps up, an IC announcement will go live and new locations for the upcoming week will also be unlocked for everyone to read through.
ADVENTURE SCHEDULE - WEEKS ONE, THREE AND FIVE:
THURSDAY: It's................ absolutely nothing! Wow! While shenanigans may occur on Thursday based on player character actions, there will be no curfew on Adventure weeks and players are free to do as they wish.
FRIDAY, 12PM EST/9AM PST: An IC announcement regarding the upcoming Adventure will be posted, and sign-ups will open for those to who are interested in participating in these bite sized events. Adventure sign-ups will not operate on a cap, so everyone who wants to participate is welcome to sign up! There is no need to be shy or feel like you're taking up somebody's slot if you've participated in an Adventure on a previous week. However, we do ask that players who sign up for an Adventure make the necessary arrangements to be there during the scheduled times on Saturday.
For the players who will not be signing up for an adventure thread, a list of optional "side quest" prompts will be made available around the same time as sign-ups. Players are welcome to complete as many of these prompts as they like throughout the weekend, or they may opt to do none of them! The world is your oyster and we are not the boss of you. Go outside and enjoy the sun if you like.
SATURDAY: Adventure days! Players who signed up on the previous day will participate in a block of short adventure threads. Think of them as bite sized public CYOAs where your character may face grievous bodily harm or even death. Wowza! These adventures will be scheduled to take place on Saturdays from 12PM EST/9AM PST to 4PM EST/1PM PST. Should there be any variations in this schedule, they will be notified to the players when sign-ups for these adventures open on Friday during weeks 1, 3 and 5. Group assignments will be posted on Discord ten minutes prior to the start time to help with coordination amongst players, so please do keep an eye on the server!
The reward for participating in these adventures and side-quests alike will be beneficial for the game as a whole once completed, but are very much not necessary for endgame, nor will they give special individual rewards. If there are no sign ups, the optional side-quest prompts will still be available but it'll otherwise just be a free day!
SUNDAY, 4PM EST/1PM PST: A short recap of yesterday's adventure will be posted and the results of everyone's combined efforts will be announced. New locations for the upcoming week will also be unlocked on Sunday for everyone to read through.
So, to summarize, your weeks will look like this:
WEEK 0: Mini-Event + Murder
WEEK 1: Missions + Adventure
WEEK 2: Mini-Event + Murder
WEEK 3: Missions + Adventure
WEEK 4: Mini-Event + Murder
WEEK 5: Missions + Adventure
WEEK 6: Mini-Event + Murder
WEEK 7: Endgame week, baby!
✦ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
✦ So, what does hybrid mean?
Quite simply, it means that we will not have a trial every week. Your attendance on Saturdays is required on Murder Weeks for standard trial procedures (which occur from 12PM EST/9AM PST to 9PM EST/6PM PST with the hour mod-break), but you are not required to be present on non-murder Saturdays. We hope this will provide a bit of schedule flexibility and ease up some potential burnout as we all ease back into murder season!
✦ What if I want to be around?
Worry not! We will have things to do for you over the non-murder weekends - some will be much slower paced, and some in short bursts depending on availability! You'll know in advance what those activities will be so you can plan accordingly. These activities will be beneficial to the game overall, but not detrimental if you miss them. You may reference the Schedule posted in the section above for a basic idea of what to expect, but we will provide more details about these activities in the weeks to come!
✦ What if I want to kill/die?
Do you think Quynn would run a game where you can't die? Come on now! Of course you will be able to die. Opportunities to do so may appear in unusual places this game - though with plenty of OOC communication, naturally.
Since there will only be a total of three trials this game, excluding tutorial week, we've come up with a variety of ways for our players to kill and be killed outside of the usual murder rodeo. If you need to dip, or simply want to die to experience the graveyard (we won't judge!), then please let us know as soon as possible so we can coordinate with you. Torture your friends with the knowledge that you can, in fact, die at any given moment. Yippee!
✦ Will the other tenets of murdergame (ie: voting, CYOAs, events) be around?
Yeup. Activity will be measured in different formats this game - more on that to come as we carry on!
✦ What about the graveyard?
Yes, we will have a functioning graveyard this game! You will have plenty of opportunities to play and influence the game as a whole from the dead side, while still not having to participate in trial on murder weeks. Think of death not as the end of your character's arc, but rather a change in perspective.
✦ What is the pacing of the game?
Our game will be running on a 1:1 schedule! Please refer to the above timeline for when important posts will go up.
✦ Do I have to be present for every trial?
If something comes up and you are unable to be present for a trial, please let us know in advance! We prefer at least 48 hours in advance (minimum 24 unless it's an emergency), particularly in this game where we do not have trial every week!
✦ Private conversations?
Private conversations! Sometimes your character (or a group of characters) will want to get together with people to spend time together or share information or whatever. This would become a private conversation that isn't shared with the game at large. Please check out the private conversations page for information on how to set up journal filters and more.
✦ How active do I have to be?
Our goal in creating this game is to have all the fun and fruity freshness of a murdergame at a more relaxed pace. We also are actively hoping to promote the environment of many of our predecessors, where player contribution is what keeps the game humming. The game functions best when all players are active and engaging, so please keep this in mind when apping in!
✦ How do I contact the mod team for any questions/concerns/murder plans?
Discord is the most effective method for all of your mods, and our Discord handles will be available in the group server. Your mods for this game are Quynn, Sisi, and Flurry! Feel free to create a group DM with us as soon as possible for all of your needs.
✦ RULES
1. Be kind. This is a game made by friends and for friends, so we would really love for our friends to treat each other well. Please remember that IC does not equal OOC! While murdergames can be competitive, it's important for everyone to treat each other with respect. Should any situations arise, please come speak to your mods.
2. Be active. While we're aiming to create more relaxed experience for our players, this game cannot function if nobody engages with the setting and in-game mechanics. Please try to be at least somewhat active throughout the week. If you're having any issues jumping into things, don't hesitate to reach out to us! Additionally, don't be afraid to reach out to us if you think you would be more comfortable in the graveyard. There are still plenty of things to do over there without all the hubbub of the weekends, and every game benefits from having a lively graveyard.
3. This is a murdergame! Your character may die at any given time, whether it's week one or week seven. They may be chosen as victim on a trial week, executed (rightfully or wrongfully!), and there will be plenty of scenarios outside of the usual murder rodeo where your character may face mortal peril. Please be a good sport if you're selected as a victim, and remember that IC =/= OOC.
4. Canon powers/abilities are nerfed. Yes, this has been stated before. But it warrants repeating.
5. Please communicate with the mod team for any questions or concerns. We want to make sure this is as fun as experience for everyone as possible! Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any concerns or feel uncomfortable about something in-game. No concern is too small or insignificant. Additionally, should you have any sort of concerns regarding team and rooming assignments, we ask that you let us know ahead of time so we may coordinate around them.
